Godzilla egg: Giant mysterious metal orb washes ashore in Japan
A mysterious iron orb that washed ashore on a Japanese beach has alarmed authorities, and garnered the name “Godzilla Egg” from social media users.
The 1.5 metre metal ball appeared on Enshuhama Beach in the coastal city of Hamamatsu, the state broadcaster NHK reported.

A passerby reported it to police on Saturday, which prompted an inspection. Police blocked roads near the site and within a radius of 100 meters, and an explosives disposal team was sent to investigate.
Using X-rays, the police determined the orb is hollow and yet they do not know in detail what kind of thing it is.
While some suspect it’s a buoy, NHK reported, the recent reporting on the Chinese spy balloon shot down over the US has social-media users into a spasm of speculation.
Some have called it a “Dragon Ball” while others have called it “Godzilla’s Egg,” after the giant lizard of Japanese film fame in the 1950s and 60s.
A local man told the outlet that the ball had sat there for more than a month, the NHK said.
