Hardin, Montana mass casualty crash – 'At least five dead' in I-90 accident after 20 cars collide in massive pileup | The Sun
FIVE people are dead after a pileup on an interstate highway in Hardin, Montana on Friday evening, said authorities.
About 20 vehicles crashed into one another on Interstate 90, said Montana Highway Patrol Sgt Jay Nelson.
Authorities believe the weather may have played a role in the crash.
“It appears as though there was heavy winds, causing a dust storm with zero visibility,” said Nelson.
Montana governor Greg Gianforte released a statement on Twitter following the crash.
“I’m deeply saddened by the news of a mass casualty crash near Hardin. Please join me in prayer to lift up the victims and their loved ones.
“We’re grateful to our first responders for their service.”
It’s unknown how many people are injured, said Nelson but additional ambulances had to be called to the scene.
“As we got closer into the dust storm, you could start seeing the vehicles in the ditch,” said motorist Linda Uffelman to KTVQ.
“There was a camper, the whole side of it was blown off, the top was off of it. Front ends of vehicles were smashed in.”
