After their Netflix docuseries and Harry’s memoir Spare, the couple will be moving away from their own experiences

The couple will not appear on screen, instead taking on less time-consuming executive producer roles, allowing them to pursue other projects and charity work.

In his memoir, the Duke of Sussex revealed he used to binge watch Friends, while Meghan said she has seen When Harry Met Sally ‘a million times’ as well as ‘all the Julia Roberts rom coms’.

The Duchess told Variety Magazine last year: ‘People love love. I’m not excluded in that sentiment.

‘And our definition of love is really expansive: Partner love, self-love, the love of community and family. We use that as the baseline of the kind of shows and documentaries we want out there.’

Until now, the couple have largely focused on their own experiences.

But now they have decided to follow in the footsteps of the Duchess of York, whose second historical romance novel for Mills & Boon is published next month.

One friend said: ‘They’ve had enough of being in the spotlight for now. It was a difficult few weeks in many ways and they want to take a step back.’

The Sussexes were seen among the guests as their neighbour Ellen DeGeneres renewed her wedding vows to Portia de Rossi last week, but they are not expected to take on any official engagements or travel until the spring.

They are both working on individual projects, including the Duke’s Heart of Invictus documentary series which is set to be released this summer.

It comes as Harry and Meghan will be invited to the King’s coronation, with palace officials already preparing for their attendance.

There is a ‘working assumption’ that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will attend the state ceremony to crown King Charles as sovereign, palace insiders told The Sun.

There had been fears that Harry and Meghan’s attendance would seek to upstage and diminish the sincerity of the high-profile ceremony – especially as the Royal Family still get to grips with the groundbreaking revelations from their Netflix series and Harry’s memoir.
