Former pub landlord Simms died in ‘supervised’ accommodation last month, aged 65.

He died two years after being released from prison for the murder of 22-year-old insurance clerk Helen McCourt.

‘I prayed he was Hell,’ Mrs McCourt, from St Helens in Merseyside, said in an interview with Yours Magazine.

She added: ‘Maybe I could have forgiven him if he’d shown compassion.

‘But you can’t forgive somebody if they are not regretful. And he wasn’t.’

She said that she puts her trust in god, adding that there are ‘reasons that it had to be Helen’.

She said his death was a ‘great relief’ when she was told last month.
