Three people have been hurt after a huge marquee collapsed in a park, leaving victims screaming for help.

The vast 410ft-long, 165ft-wide structure was being dismantled by technicians when in Mayflower Park, Southampton, Hampshire, when it came crashing down at about 9am today.

One eyewitness described hearing a ‘man’s screams for help’ after the marquee ‘suddenly’ collapsed with a loud ‘bang’.

‘Several workers ran out of the way,’ the witness told Southampton’s Daily Echo newspaper. ‘Then I saw a man lying on his side crying out and several people ran over.’

The temporary structure had featured at the last week’s Seawork-Marine Civil exhibition between June 13 and 15. The cause of the collapse is unclear but an investigation has now been launched.
