Horror last moments of murdered dad who was tortured to death in two-hour ordeal

CCTV footage played in court reveals the horrifying last moments of a dad-of-two who was murdered in his own home after being tortured for two hours.

Thomas Campbell, 38, was bound and tortured by three assailants hired by his own ex-wife for two straight hours in his Manchester home in July 2022.

Police found his dead body on July 3, which was naked except for a pair of socks and duct tape wrapped around his ankles, severely restricting his movement, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Manchester Crown Court heard how Mr Campbell, a drug dealer who played an "integral" part in a crime organisation, received 61 total injuries, after being punched, kicked, strangled, stamped on and attacked with weapons.

The thugs ended the horrific episode by pouring boiling hot water over his buttocks in a final act of brutal humiliation.

Blood was splattered across his £300,000 townhouse in Greater Manchester after he was dragged across during the harrowing two-hour ordeal, all while the three thugs ransacked his home for any valuables they could get their hands on.

The court also heard that he managed to call 999 at around 1am on the night of his attack, but was too injured to answer the call handler’s questions.

As a result, he was not found until 10 hours after his attack began, when a neighbour noticed that his front door was wide open.

Prosecutors described the attack, which was orchestrated by his ex-wife Colleen Campbell, as an "extraordinary act of barbarism".

She orchestrated the attack after she accused him of cheating on her with her best friend by contacting John Belfield, another person “heavily concerned in the large-scale supply of class A drugs”, according to Greater Manchester Police.

Colleen along with two others, Reece Steven and Stephen Cleworth, who bailed from the orchestrated attack after he went on a “bender” at a swingers club the night before, were found guilty of conspiring to rob Thomas.

John Belfield, who is alleged to have been the mastermind behind the attack, is believed to have fled the country right after the attack and is still at large. He is being sought by police.

Colleen and Cleworth could face decades in prison after they were convicted of manslaughter, while Reece faces a life sentence after he was also found guilty of murdering Thomas.

They will be sentenced on Wednesday (February 22).
