“It was a huge flash and an extremely loud noise, and when the smoke cleared, we saw my sister falling to the ground with her arms outstretched, already lifeless.

"The rocket exploded in her body and we saw everything. It was in a matter of seconds, we couldn't or didn't have time to do anything, nor did she herself have a chance to save herself."

Bystander Luiza Ferreira, 20, told local news several unauthorised fireworks displays were taking place on the beach.

She explained: "I saw a huge flash just as it turned midnight and I was hugging my mum and then everyone started screaming.

"I saw a woman lying on the ground bleeding when I went to look and the boy who was with her was also on the ground.

"Other people were running to get away from the area."

Elisangela tragically passed away from wounds to her chest.

Her 41-year-old cousin Alexander Freitas Goncalves, who was with her at the time suffered minor injuries as he tried to remove the pyrotechnic from her clothes.

It has been confirmed that the fatal firework was not lit by any of her relatives.

A murder investigation is now underway as cops launched a hunt to find the person who lit the fuse.

Police believe the man who lit the fatal firework fled the scene following the explosion.

Police chief Alex Mendonca do Nascimento called for the culprit to present themselves at the local police station as he noted "the case, for the time being, is qualified as manslaughter."

Elisangela's heartbroken friends took to social media to pay tribute to the tragic mum.

One pal wrote: "I cannot believe what has happened.

"My love to all the family. Please God comfort your hearts at this awful time. I am praying for you."

Elisangela leaves behind her two sons João Victor, 18, and Vinicius, 13.

Tamiris added that the mum's tragic death came at the "happiest moment of her life."
