Inside Evri's filthy delivery centre with mountains of dumped and half-opened parcels while staff ‘smoke drugs’ | The Sun

A FILTHY delivery centre with mountains of dumped parcels next to overflowing bins has been exposed.

Hundreds of damaged and opened packages are "mistreated everywhere" at the Evri depot and some workers even do drugs at work, whistle-blowers have claimed.

They also said the "disgusting" bathroom hasn't been cleaned in two years and reckon the grimy kitchen area would fail any hygiene inspection.

One shocking picture from the depot in Slough West, Berkshire, shows a filthy urinal while another one shows a toilet with a bin overflowing with loo roll.

Battered cardboard parcel boxes are also seen piled up in the dirty warehouse.

It led Evri, who rebranded from Hermes last March after coming last in Citizens Advice’s ranking of delivery firms for a second year running, to do a “deep clean”.

A source said: “The whole thing is a mess and if anything, it’s got worse since changing its name from Hermes.

“There’s damaged and opened parcels which have been mistreated everywhere. It’s a dump.

“The bathroom is so disgusting that you can’t even use the toilet as it hasn’t been cleaned in two years.

“Bosses claim their budget has been cut but really it’s a lack of management. They need to hire more qualified people. It’s unfair on customers.”

He claims huge backlogs of packages build up as some staff do not turn up for work until after 11am despite the last lorry dropping off deliveries at 8am.

A sole night shift worker is said to start at 5am to begin processing which causes packages to be delivered late after 1pm or not at all.

Operations have been hampered since November leading to fears Christmas presents wouldn’t arrive on time.

Facebook groups have been formed containing thousands of disgruntled customers dedicated to fuming over their lost items.

Evri, which has a zero-tolerance drugs policy, is also looking into allegations of employees smoking cannabis while at work in Slough West.

Pictures show senior staff members making roll-ups inside before puffing away with drivers outside.

Our whistleblower added: “Evri needs to take responsibility. These are the people who are meant to be running the show.

“I’ve seen employees smoking weed multiple times.

“Shamefully these people are doing drugs at work and giving customers terrible service.”

Evri claims it has invested more than £130million to improve its UK service over the past two years.

A spokesman said: “We take the issues raised very seriously and can confirm that we are currently carrying out a full investigation at our Slough West depot.
