Inside murder of man who gave evidence against Brink’s Mat gangster Kenneth Noye… as cops hunt hitman 27 YEARS later | The Sun

THE EXECUTION of a man who gave evidence against Kenny Noye which led to him being jailed for murder is still being probed by detectives 25 years on.

Alan Decabral, 40, was a key witness who helped nail Noye for a road rage murder which saw him banged up for 20 years when he stabbed to death 21-year-old Stephen Cameron.

As the career-criminal shamelessly tries to repent for the murder and is glamorised in a new BBC drama watched by millions, it can be revealed detectives are still trying to trace the person that killed the man that helped put him behind bars.

Noye is gaining more notoriety in the BBC show The Gold which tells the story of an audacious heist he took part in.

But experts say the spotlight should focus on the unsolved murder of the man executed just weeks after he gave evidence at Noye's Old Bailey trial.

Dad-of-three Mr Decabral gave evidence at Noye’s trial for killing Mr Cameron off the M25 in Kent in 1996.

Noye was questioned by police but it was reported that they concluded it had no proven connection to him.

Decabral was executed six months later in broad daylight when he was waiting to pick up his son in the passenger seat of a black Peugeot 205 at a retail park.

Noye was in Whitemoor prison, in Cambridgeshire when Mr Decabral was shot.

It was feared he had been murdered in a gangland hit.

Mr Decabral said giving evidence at the trial “had a devastating effect on my life” and that he thought he could “be a target”.

A gunman blasted antiques dealer Mr Decabral through the open window as he had begged for his life, onlookers said.

Noye is currently being depicted in a new six-part BBC series into the infamous Brinks-Mat robbery, which took place in 1983.

The robbery saw six armed men break into a security depot near London’s Heathrow Airport.

Noye also stabbed undercover detective John Fordham to death in 1985 during the robbery investigation.

It was there that the men would stumble across £26 million worth of gold bullion.

Critics say Noye has been glamorized in the show.

He has also posed for photos of part of a new book into his criminal history – with experts fearing he is trying to rehabilitate himself.

Kent Police say the probe into Mr Decabral’s death is still ongoing and they’d urge witnesses to come forward.

A source said: “The focus should be on this unsolved murder.
“He’s being portrayed as this wide-boy wheeler dealer, but let’s not forget he’s a killer."

A spokesman for Kent Police said: “The murder of Alan Decabral, 40, from Pluckley, in October 2000 is currently undetected but is and has been subject to review as with all unsolved major crimes.

"Reviews take place as and when there is new information, intelligence or forensic opportunities.

“Anyone with any information about this case should ring Kent Police on 01622 690690 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Noye was released from jail in 2019 after serving almost 21 years for Stephen’s murder.

In 2020, he was photographed at the M25 and M20 interchange where he knifed the young man during a fight.

Stephen's dad, Ken Cameron, 73, said at the time: “It’s like Noye’s [is] walking on Stephen’s grave.
