King Charles’ Coronation may be ‘the shortest in British history’, expert claims

The upcoming Coronation of King Charles III may be the "shortest in British history" as a number of modernisations have been made.

The King's Coronation on May 6 could be a shorter, slimmer and the "most viewed" event of all time.

Major changes to who is present and how the service will carry itself have been reported by The Daily Star, and royal expert Dr George Gross believes the service may be the "shortest in history".

Those changes to reduce the timings of the Coronation are, according to the King's College London alumni, a way of reflecting "the contemporary world".

Dr Gross said: "The coronation promises to be one of the most viewed events of all time.

"It may also be the shortest coronation in British history – with homage/fealty likely to be removed and the presentation of various elements of the regalia also abandoned to cut time.

"The seating and dress of the audience are likely to reflect the contemporary world, rather than the embroidered coronation chairs and the ermine coronation robes of the peerage of former times."

Further on from timing changes and modernisations, King Charles III's Coronation will be the first time those watching at home can see a key part of the day.

Expert Gross added: "The service is also likely to reflect the multi-faith nature of the UK – with representatives from different denominations present and possibly participating in the service.

"For the first time in coronation history, the anointing of the monarch, the most holy/sacral element may be televised to the world."

The Coronation is set to be a major moment in the reign of King Charles III and his youngest son Prince Harry is set to appear at the service after a series of controversial claims were published in his book Spare.

The Daily Star has since reported the King is keen to see the Duke of Sussex at the service, with the Sussex duo having been "forgiven" by Charles.
