Man charged over brutal attack on grandad who was battered to ground and ‘left for dead’ for ‘brushing past woman’ | The Sun

A MAN has been charged after a grandad was battered to the ground and "left for dead in a pool of blood" after allegedly brushing past a woman in the street.

Cops confirmed that Claudio Campos, 28, had been charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm over the attack on the Sikh priest, 62, in Manchester in June.

Shocking footage, shown in The Sun earlier this month, shows the victim lying face down in the road following the brutal attack.

He is believed to have accidentally touched a woman's arm as he wandered through the city's Northern Quarter.

Her boyfriend is then understood to have followed him and launched a horrific ambush.

CCTV shows the pair talking before the younger guy punches him in the head, sending him tumbling to the tarmac.

There, he lies motionless while his attacker walks away with just a quick glance back.

The victim's family also provided an update on his condition, revealing they feel as though they have "lost" the man who brought joy to their lives, Manchester Evening News reports.

They say he suffered a serious brain injury, remains in hospital and has not spoken a word since.

"Our loving and caring husband and father, 62, had his life tragically altered forever when a thug cowardly committed this heinous act, leaving him in a pool of blood with catastrophic permanent life-changing brain damage and walked away as if it was normal behaviour," relatives said.

"A Sikh priest was left for dead on the bustling streets of Manchester, a route he has walked home every day, while people watched on.

They continued: "We have lost the life of the party, the light in amongst any darkness in our lives and the laughter and joy he brought home every day.

"He has disappeared and left our hearts vacant. We will sadly never get the man back who left for work that day and thought he would walk home to enjoy the nice weather.
