Man returns home to find wife's mutilated remains being eaten by family dog after she is mauled to death | The Sun
A MAN returned home to find his wife's mutilated body being eaten by the family dog after a "horrific" attack.
Marina Verriest, 70, was discovered in the grisly scene by her husband, 66, after he came home to find their pit bull "still eating on her body," police said.
The pit bull had belonged to Marina's stepson, who tragically died in a motorcycle accident just two weeks before the harrowing attack.
The beast mauled Verriest to death some time before her husband returned home on Wednesday, who found the dog still dragging her body around their backyard.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services at the couple's residence in Nassau County, New York.
"The scene was pretty horrific," Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said at a press conference.

"We don’t know what time the attack took place, but there was obviously a lot of mutilation on the body, legs and face," he added.
The mutt was shot dead by police after it attacked officers when they arrived at the gruesome scene in Long Island, New York.
The officer that shot the pit bull is being referred for treatment after being traumatized by the flesh-eating canine.
Ryder said: "The officer saw something that was very traumatic, we take care of our officers and make sure they’re OK."

Despite the horrific attack, there have been no previous reports of trouble involving the pit bull, according to the Nassau County SPCA.
Ryder said: "We don’t know what turned the dog or why the dog turned on the woman.
"There had been no previous domestic calls to the home or calls regarding the dog."
Speaking to CBS news, a neighbour described how the pit bull was incredibly strong, and recalled seeing the dog being walked by its former-owner.
They said: "When he was alive, he used to walk [the dog] with both hands holding the leash.
"That dog was leading him."
