Massage parlour boss who raped women as young as 17 after luring them to job interviews is jailed for 19 years

  • Raghu Singamaneni staged ‘trial massages’ at hotels where he raped women
  • He plied young women with drink and drugs before raping them

A monster who raped women as young as 17 after luring them to job interviews has been jailed for 19 years.

Raghu Singamaneni, 50, from Luton, was found guilty of raping and sexually assaulting four women at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday.

He met the first victim, aged 17, during a bogus job interview where she was asked to return the next day.

The teenager met Singamaneni at the parlour, where he insisted that she should have a glass of prosecco which made her sick and intoxicated.

The 50-year-old, who ran two massage parlours in Islington and Wood Green, took the minor to a hotel where he sexually assaulted and tried to rape her.

He was convicted of three counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration and one count of attempted rape at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday

Another victim of the prolific rapist was a 19-year-old who said he assaulted her at a massage parlour on High Road, North London.

She said Singamaneni had asked for a massage, insisted that she drink some vodka and then raped her.

The attacker also raped a 23-year-old after meeting him at a hotel in Golders Green for another bogus job interview.

When they were alone in the room, Singamaneni filled her with alcohol before he forcibly took off her clothes and raped her.

Another 17-year-old also became a victim to the rapist after she applied for a job as a masseur.

After speaking to a woman about the possibility of an interview, she was told to meet Singamaneni at a hotel for a ‘trial massage’.

She was plied with drugs and alcohol in the hotel, where she was then raped.

Singamaneni was convicted of three counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration and one count of attempted rape.

Detective Constable Hussain Sayem, who led the investigation, said: ‘This man used his position of authority to carry out a string of sexual assaults on young women. Many of these women were lured by the hope of employment, but were then subjected to the most dreadful sexual assaults.

‘I have no doubt that Singamaneni thought these women would never speak out against him or would never be believed. He was wrong, these women did have the courage to speak out and the jury found him guilty by a unanimous verdict.

‘Some sexual predators believe they can get away with their crimes, but this case shows they cannot and will be brought to justice. Lastly, we know Singamaneni is a serial offender and it is entirely possible he has attacked other women who have not felt able to come forward and report their ordeal to police.

‘I would urge anyone in this position to get in contact and quote Operation Sting – you will be listened to and supported by specially trained officers.’
