This is the moment Piers Corbyn accidentally reverses into a van during an anti-ULEZ protest in central London.

The conspiracy theorist, 76, was filmed taking part in a demonstration against Sadiq Khan’s expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone – where £12.50 is charged for driving polluting vehicles – which is due to cover all London boroughs from August.

Driving an N-plate Vauxhall Cavalier with a megaphone attached to the roof, Corbyn – brother of former Labour leader Jeremy – tells onlookers not to pay the charge and to ‘drive at will’.

Ironically, as he tries to follow a delivery van into the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel, he ends up blocking ‘keep clear’ markings on the road, causing long tailbacks for traffic behind, including buses.

Fellow campaigners with cardboard placards featuring messages such as ‘The End Of Free Movement’ and ‘London: Pioneering Prison Cities’.

A frustrated Transit van driver then tries to overtake him, only for Corbyn to reverse into the side of the oncoming vehicle, appearing to cause a small dent.

Police then intervene and the two drivers exchange details, while Corbyn is ushered to move his car, which also features a bashed-up wing-mirror, to the side of the road.

Speaking to fellow activists after the incident, the anti-vaxxer said: ‘We were trying to drive into the hotel, following the van.

‘And the van was moving but then they wouldn’t let the van in. It was a delivery van which is strange.

‘So then I reversed back a little bit to make room for the van and this van came up illegally behind me and my car touched him. But there’s nothing, no damage.’

The protest came on the same day that mayors from across the globe are gathering in the capital for the first ever Healthy Cities Summit.

The Greater London Authority describes the meeting as an opportunity to discuss strategies to combat the global burden of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and injuries.

Corbyn added: ‘We’re here today to protest against this conference of the mayors from around the world, who say they’re having a Healthy Cities conference.

‘But their idea of healthy cities is lockdowns: lock down all traffic, ban traffic from cities, limit how they move around, so we’re here to oppose them completely…it’s a junket and we’re saying they should fly home and take Sadiq Khan with them.’

The ULEZ expansion was hailed as a way to tackle pollution, but it has been slammed for putting even more pressure on those grappling with the cost-of-living crisis.

In a People’s Question Time session earlier this month, a fiery Mr Khan defended his controversial policy and attacked some of his opponents.

He said: ‘Some of you have got good reasons to oppose Ulez, but you are in coalition with Covid deniers… you may not like it… you are in coalition with the far-Right. And you are in coalition with vaccine deniers as well.’

Controversial campaigner Corbyn has been involved with a number of public rallies in recent months.

Last year, he was told he had to pay more than £1,000 after breaking Covid rules by attending anti-lockdown protests in the capital.

The Met Police and the Mayor’s Office have been approached for comment.
