Moment police swoop on aristocrat Constance Marten’s boyfriend as hundreds of cops continue search for couple’s baby | The Sun

THE moment cops swooped in to arrest Constance Marten’s lover Mark Gordon after the couple spent seven weeks on the run has been revealed.

The couple were discovered by cops in Brighton on Monday night – without their newborn baby – after 54 days on the run.

The couple were located on a residential street shortly before 9.30pm and an urgent search continues in the area.

It’s understood they visited a convenience store near Fiveways, Brighton to pick up supplies before heading back towards the Roedale Valley allotments.

The pair were then discovered when members of the public alerted police after recognising the pair from police media appeals.

Now footage obtained by The Mirror has show the moment officers swooped in to arrest Gordon.

“I was sitting in my van at the time, about 9.30pm last night. There was a couple in front of me. Two police officers, one male and one female, and they approached the couple.

“They went for the man first, he was struggling and resisting arrest. The woman he was with was shouting at the officers and telling them to be careful as he had issues with mental health.

“A second police car arrived and the back-up officers helped subdue the man. They were kneeling on his back. He was groaning in pain.

“The woman was handcuffed but she was treated much more gently. The man must have resisted arrest for about 40-minutes. I was worried because there was about three or four officers trying to subdue him. They were on top of him to stop him from running off.”

At Tuesday's press conference, a Met Police spokesman, speaking alongside Sussex Police, said that cops still do not know the gender of the baby.

A former police detective told Sky News this may suggest Marten and Gordon are not answering questions in custody.

Police are continuing a desperate search across 91-square miles of East Sussex for the missing baby.

Over 200 officers were spotted searching under cars and behind bins in Stanmer Villas and nearby Roedale Valley Allotments.

The allotment is now being treated as a "potential crime scene".

Marten and Gordon left their home in Eltham, South East London, sometime in September 2022, and began a nomadic lifestyle.

Before they vanished, it is thought Marten withdrew £15,000 of cash from an ATM.

The couple's car was found on fire on January 5 on the M61 near Bolton, Lancashire – it is thought Constance gave birth in the vehicle or near it in the days surrounding the incident.

They were then spotted on CCTV at various locations across Liverpool, London, Essex and East Sussex.

Following the pair's disappearance, police told how the aristocrat became estranged from her family after meeting Gordon when she was a drama student in 2016.
