A tourist has been bitten by a monkey on at the Taj Mahal in India.

A Spanish tourist was photographing the Taj Mahal on Monday (September 19) when she was bitten by the ape on the premises of the palace.

It's yet another incident that took place on palace grounds following two foreigners and one Indian tourist reported to have been injured at the Taj Mahal in the last 10 days.

These particular incidents have garnered the attention of the authorities, resulting in the ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) superintendent instructing employees to now carry sticks in order to scare away the monkeys.

Despite employees now being armed, it's not doing much in the protection of tourists with monkey attacks in Agra remaining a regular occurrence, and sometimes even proving to be fatal.

Just last month, two tourists from Delhi were attacked by monkeys as footage of the victims taken by shopkeepers outside the palace spread on social media.

A report compiled by the Times of India quoted a shopkeeper saying: " One woman was bitten on the abdomen, while the other was bitten on the left leg. They left soon after without complaining."

One recent instance of how monkey attacks can turn fatal was the death of a 12-day-old infant in 2018.

It was reported that a monkey snatched the infant from his mother's arms and killed it.
