Mum and 3-month-old baby found with throats slit after being ‘killed by husband’

A mother and her baby have been found with their throats slit in their apartment in what appears to be a brutal double murder.

A man has now been arrested after the bodies were found in their apartment in Santa Catarina in Brazil.

The woman is believed to be 23-year-old Jessica Mayara Ballock who was found dead alongside her three-month-old baby, Theo Pereira.

Arrested is Kelber Henrique Pereira, 28, the husband to Ms Ballock and the father of Theo. He was found and taken into custody by authorities in the state of São Paulo, north of where the horrific deaths took place.

Officers had to force their way into the apartment where the two were slain to make the discovery, kicking off a manhunt for Pereira who is understood to have fled by car for 10 hours to São Paulo.

The couple’s other son, who is 23 months old, was found safe with his grandparents in nearby Minas Gerais.

Ronnie Esteves, a spokesperson for the police, said that authorities “tried to make contact with the resident, but as they were unsuccessful, they entered. At the entrance they identified drops of blood."

He continued: "The victims were found inside a room, which was locked. The baby was on top of a bed."

Although the official autopsy is not yet released Brazilian police have said that a knife with blood traces was found in the apartment and that both victims had damage to their throats.

Pereira is understood to have confessed to the killings but, due to being under the influence of drugs and alcohol, claims he doesn’t remember it.

Pereira said that all he remembers was there being blood everywhere with his next thought turning to his older son.

He said he wanted to “pick up my other young son and take him to his grandmother's house".

He claims he then drove the 10-hour journey to São Paulo to go to rehab.

The investigation is ongoing and the alleged killer remains in custody under judicial request.
