My street stinks as rubbish bins are left out for up to a MONTH – council says road is 'too narrow' for lorries | The Sun

RESIDENTS have endured horrid stenches for weeks because of month-long delays to bin collections, they complained.

And the problem has been made worse because the road is apparently too narrow for waste collection lorries.

Neighbours also complained that council officials are failing to do anything to help the issue in Derbyshire.

Warehouse worker Richard Poyner, 35, told Derbyshire Live: “It is a nightmare. This is a tight street so bins don’t get collected, and there’s nowhere to park.

"There’s also the health issue. It’s not good for our health. They do stink as well, especially with the heat.

"The council don’t seem to want to do anything, you get passed around and don’t get a straight answer."

Neighbour Ms Winfield added: "Once it was a month before they could collect them.

"I can understand that they might not be able to get around parked cars, but there’s nothing to stop them reversing from the top of the road to take some away.

“I’ve lived here nearly 20 years. The situation is the worst since moving here."

Ellie Fearn, 30, a carer, bought her house on Mill Road in February 2019. She said: “People keep parking their cars in awkward places on the road – but I’ve never seen the waste disposal people even try getting past them.

"The bins also get a bit stinky, and I pay for my bins to be cleaned – they can’t do it when they’re full."

Mrs Guildford, 80, who has lived on the street for 43 years, said: “It’s hit and miss. Some weeks they get by no problem, but sometimes it’s a bit of a struggle.

“But it is a nightmare. And it’s smelly.”

Former stay-at-home carer Terry Hanson, 66, added: “The road is very tight.”

A spokesperson for Norse, which carries out waste disposal for Amber Valley Borough Council, said: “Amber Valley Norse is committed to servicing each property as per the agreed schedule of fortnightly refuse or recycling collections.

“Unfortunately, we are aware that some streets are narrow and this one is particularly problematic with parked cars which has led to our bin lorries not being able to gain sufficient access.

“We regularly monitor these areas and make additional visits back to gain access and attempt bin collections at alternative times of the day.”

A spokesperson for Derbyshire County Council said: “We can’t find any record of anyone getting in touch with us about this issue recently.

"However we do understand how frustrating it is for local residents when bin lorries, or other large vehicles, can’t get down their road because of issues with parking.

"And it can obviously cause issues for our colleagues in the districts and borough councils that collect waste.
