Mystery as dismembered body of cyclist, 57, found at tourist site in France as cops say missing victim had ‘no enemies’ | The Sun

THE dismembered body of a missing electrician who vanished on a bike ride near a French tourist hotspot has been found.

Cops found body parts belonging to François Vignouroux, 57, that had been hacked and placed into bin bags at the geology heritage site of Orgues d'Ille-sur-Tet in the Pyrénées-Orientales.

A passerby reported a rotting smell coming from the two bags, which were found to contain the victim's body that had been cut in half without arms or feet.

It took three weeks to identify the body found in the bin bags – a head and torso in one bag and thighs in another.

It was only on June 22 that police were able to identify the victim as Mr Vignouroux, 57.

Puzzled cops admitted there were few leads as Mr Vignouroux had no known enemies.

He had been missing since May 26 when he left his village near Ille-sur-Tet to cycle to Thuir around 17:30, about fifteen kilometres away.

Described as "uneventful", Vignouroux lived with his partner.

Having not come back from his solo ride as promised and that being out of character, his son began worrying and contacted the police.

An investigation into his disappearance was immediately opened.

The last signal from his phone showed it was located near when the body was found at around 18:00 on the day Vignouroux went missing.

The phone then appeared to have been switched off.

A murder investigation has now been open by the public Prosecutor's Office in Perpignan.

The case is shrouded in mystery because those who knew Vignouroux said he was well-loved and "had no enemies".

“François is an electrician, he is not a thug.

"He comes home every evening to eat at home. He is the most normal man,” one of his loved ones told Le Parisien.

Investigations are questioning how the family man could have become involved in such a violent crime, many in the region say is usually linked to the mafia, or other criminal gangs' revenge attacks.

An autopsy has not revealed an apparent cause of death, or whether the father was killed and dismembered where he was found.
