TikTok clip shows nursing home staff ‘mocking elderly patients’ by dressing up in NAPPIES and dancing to music

  • Series of videos recorded at Gillibrand Hall Nursing Home in Chorley, Lancashire
  • The £600-a-week facility was rated ‘Good’ by Care Quality Commission in March
  • Company who manages the site said they were ‘appalled’ by the series of videos

This the ‘appalling’ moment nursing home staff appeared to mock their elderly dementia patients by donning adult nappies and dancing around the hallways of a £600-a-week facility in Lancashire.

The health workers, who have all been suspended, made a series of videos while on shift at the Gillibrand Hall Nursing Home – which was rated as ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as recently as March this year.

One clip shows at least two staff members walking down a hallway wearing adult nappies while taking part in a TikTok trend that encouraged users to recreate a scene from Disney’s The Aristocats – in which two geese walk side-by-side and swish their tails in unison.

Another video shows a staff member using a reclining chair, which helps patients stand up, while Westlife’s song You Raise Me Up plays in the background.

Staff at the ‘specialist dementia care’ facility are also seen dancing with cushions that have facemasks strapped around them.

The care home in Chorley provides nursing, dementia and respite care for people aged over 65.

The CQC’s report in March said its residents received ‘safe care from suitably trained and qualified staff.’

Century Healthcare Management said the company was now taking the ‘appropriate action’ to investigate and suspend staff who participated in the video (Pictured: Gillibrand Hall Nursing Home in Chorley)

A spokesperson for Century Healthcare Management, which runs the Grade II listed care home, said they were ‘appalled’ by the clip after it surfaced on social media.

They said the company was now taking the ‘appropriate action’ to investigate and suspend staff who participated in the video.

A statement read: ‘We agree that this is totally inappropriate and wrong.

‘We are appalled at what these staff members have chosen to do and we are already taking the appropriate action including investigation and suspension of staff.

‘We take this matter extremely seriously and do not condone these actions.’

‘We have been liaising with families where necessary. Our operations manager is speaking directly with our CQC inspector.
