Out-of-control Rottweiler tore into boy’s arm and leaves him scarred for life

A young boy has been left with life-changing scars after a raging Rottweiler launched a vicious attack on him.

The Scottish 12-year-old – who has remained anonymous for legal reasons – was the victim of several puncture wounds to his left forearm after the off-the-lead dog set upon him.

He had gone to meet friends for a walk, when the dog launched itself at him after darting across a main road.

This also nearly caused a car accident, as quick-thinking drivers were forced to stop in-time to avoid the dog.

Shockingly, the owner of the dog was “too scared” to stop the attack, which was only halted when a nearby member of the public got involved.

Others rushed to help, and managed to drag the boy over a nearby wall – while the dog was chased away, before he was rushed to hospital.

Speaking to the Daily Record, the boy recalled: “I was just walking when I heard a car horn and when I turned round the dog was on me. I don’t remember much but it was really scary.

“I don’t have much feeling around the bite marks and when I touch the skin it’s like I’m touching someone else’s arm.

“I definitely don’t like dogs any more and now I cross the street if I see any dog coming towards me.

“I don’t like going to the park or beach where I see dogs off a lead.”

The youngster was left with nerve damage, multiple scars, and a profound fear of dogs as a result of the horror incident, and his mum – who is also remaining nameless – is now urging people to be careful about having dogs kept off leads.

“I am a firm believer that bad dog breeds do not exist – but bad dog owners do,” she said.

“What happened to my son is proof of that and I hope people learn from this to stop future tragedies. The nurses said they’d never seen a dog bite like it.

“Before the attack my son was the biggest animal lover in the family but that’s now changed – he’s now even wary around dogs he’s known for years like his gran's dogs.”

The dog owner, a 27-year-old man, has been prosecuted under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, and has been slapped with a £300 fine.

The dog will also be put down.
