Partygoers at East Yorkshire ‘Love Island’ villa ‘scared veteran with PTSD’

People living in an area of Yorkshire say they 'can't cope' after being subjected to late night parties at a holiday let.

Officials at East Riding Council refused a holiday let application for The Eaves after learning that the property was already marketing itself as a 'Love Island Villa'.

Applicant Paminder Singh-Chana reassured councillors that the property had not received any complaints about people staying at the property, and claimed that the impact was the as a family hosting gatherings from time to time, HullLive reports.

However this view was not shared by Geoffrey Naylor, who claimed that elderly neighbours had been subjected to swearing, screaming, as well as smelling drugs, which one councillor claimed had led to the police being called.

Mr Singh-Chana had bought the property with his brother in 2021, and councillors unanimously rejected the retrospective application.

At present the six-bedroom property is classed as a family home, however Mr Singh-Chana submitted an application to allow the property to be used as a holiday let.

Councillors heard how the owners and applicant had put a system in place to monitor any complaints about guest behaviour at the property.

In addition to the bedrooms, the extensive property also boasts a heated outdoor swimming pool, hot tub, two living rooms, and five bathrooms.

Council officers had recommended that the plans be approved, submitting 13 comments in support including pool maintenance and cleaning businesses, which received business at the property.

However, these were opposed by 36 objections from residents, as well as Flamborough Parish Council over noise and antisocial behaviour, which were preventing them from sleeping, as well as traffic problems caused by parking.

There were also concerns from the RNLI, who claimed that parked cars had blocked access to their lifeboat station which is located on the same street.

Mr Singh-Chana maintained the vast majority of guests staying at the property were a mix of adults and children, adding that it offered accommodation which would otherwise be unavailable in the village.

He said: "The let is close to attractions including the Flamborough Head heritage coastline and Bempton Cliffs.

"This encourages the development of the local economy and boosts tourism.

"To date £43,520 has been brought into the local economy and has been spent in cafes, shops and other local businesses, it's brought 709 visitors to Flamborough, it's a valuable addition to the area."

But Mr Naylor claimed the let had actually been advertised for stag and hen dos and other parties, saying: "This is in one of the quietest residential streets in Flamborough.

"Neighbours have asked for the noise to be kept down only to be told to mind their own business and the guests can do what they want because they've paid a lot of money for it.

"This is advertised as 'The Famous Villa' and it welcomes stag and hen dos. It has an indoor games room and guests often don't leave the property so there's no financial benefit to the area."

Councillor Phoenix said neighbours had been mortified by the behaviour of guests at the house.

The ward member said: "Many of the neighbours are elderly and they're suffering because of the noise and disturbance over the last year.

"One resident has a very serious illness, he was in the Iraq War and has PTSD.

"Someone from the let jumped into his garden, it frightened him to death and he's now considering moving out because he can't cope anymore.

"If you live in a residential area and throw a party you take your neighbours into account.

"But many of the people who come here will never come back, they're there to enjoy themselves and they don't consider the neighbours."
