It is alleged about 4am on August 3, the woman drove to an address in Kenwick where the two Belgian malinois lived.

The dogs — Kaiser, four, and Kyra, seven – were in the yard when the woman allegedly threw a number of bones laced with strychnine over the fence.

The dogs quickly became seriously ill and died about 30 minutes after eating the contaminated treats.

After her arrest, the woman was charged with two counts of cruelty to animals and is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on October 28.

The maximum penalty for the offence is a $50,000 fine and five years imprisonment.

In September, a 29-year-old woman was convicted of animal cruelty and fined $3500 after abandoning her dog in a backyard in the peak of summer.

The three-year-old Staffy-cross named Cherry was reduced to skin and bone, rescued on a sweltering 39-degree day.
