Prison officer, 27, faces jail over inappropriate relationship with inmate and smuggling cannabis | The Sun

A PRISON officer who embarked on an inappropriate relationship with an inmate is facing jail.

Joanne Hunter became involved with the unnamed lag while working at HMP Forest Bank in Salford in December 2020.

The 27-year-old today pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office.

She also admitted a charge of bringing or conveying cannabis into the prison.

Hunter had denied bringing or conveying an unauthorised mobile phone into the prison with that offence left to lie on the file.

Manchester Crown Court heard no further details of her relationship with the prisoner.

Her parents watched from the public gallery as Hunter entered her pleas.

Judge Rachel Smith, who ordered a pre-sentence report, warned her that “immediate custody is inevitable in cases like this”.

According to her LinkedIn, Hunter worked as a prison officer for two years between December 2018 and December 2020.

Hunter was released on conditional bail ahead of her sentencing on April 25.
