Ronnie Wood is planning to chop down four trees on his £3million country estate, including one he fears may fall onto his beloved gypsy caravan.

The Rolling Stone, 75, has applied for planning permission to remove the trees due to their location within a conservation area.

He claims the greenery needs to be pollarded and felled to protect ‘health and safety’ and for ‘tree management’, but is particularly concerned by an overgrown Ash tree that’s precariously close to his £40,000 caravan.

A source close to the rocker says: ‘Ronnie loves his caravan and it takes pride and place in his garden, but the Ash tree above could do some serious damage if it’s not cut down.’

‘He’s an environmentalist and wouldn’t ordinarily be so ruthless with the greenery.

‘But the trees have grown to such an extent they’re now a safety hazard.

‘Despite him owning the land and none of the trees having a preservation order, he still has to apply to cut them down.’

Ronnie, who has Romany gypsy roots, received the £40,000 caravan from ex-wife Jo Wood as a 60th birthday present.

The star divorced model Jo, 67, in 2011, remarrying a year later with his third wife Sally, 44.

Ronnie also wants to cut down an Ash tree that overhangs a public playing field.

He claims it’s severely infected with Ash dieback and needs to be chopped down to the stump.

And he’s asked to remove a Cherry tree which is smothered in Ivy and needs to be killed off, plus a Norway Spruce whom experts fear will collapse in fierce weather.

He bought his rural Hertfordshire Tudor mansion in 2015 for £2.1 million and it’s been used in films and TV shows including Midsomer Murders.

Land owners have to apply to the local planning department before cutting down trees in conservation areas – as they may contribute to the special character of the landscape.

Most of the work will be done using cherry pickers, although more complicated rope techniques will be needed for the taller Norway spruce. The two-time Rock and Roll inductee has also recently opened up his own art store, where fans can view and order his work.

Alongside Picasso-style paintings, his work includes wistful depictions of leafless, winter trees.
