Russia 'seizes British-supplied Storm Shadow missile to learn secrets'
Russia ‘seizes British-supplied Storm Shadow missile and hands it over to weapon specialists to learn its secrets’
- Intact British-supplied missile has been seized by Russia as a ‘war trophy’
- Pro-Moscow sources claim to ‘evacuate’ Storm Shadow missile for analysis
Russia claims to have seized an intact British-supplied Storm Shadow missile as a ‘war trophy’.
The weapon with a 155 mile range and precision accuracy has severely damaged Russian invaders in Ukraine in recent weeks.
But today pro-Moscow sources claimed to have successfully ‘evacuated’ one Storm Shadow missile from the war zone to allow Russian weapons experts to dissect and analyse it.
Earlier Russian state media war correspondent Andrey Rudenko alleged Ukrainian forces ‘sold one Storm Shadow rocket to our [Russian] comrades.’
But the former head of the Russian Space Agency, Dmitry Rogizin, said the missile had been shot down – apparently in a corn field.

Now working in the war zone after being fired by Vladimir Putin, he said the Russian Tsar’s Wolves unit near occupied port Berdiansk had retrieved the missile after only slight damage when it was shot down.

‘The enemy tried to prevent us from capturing such a trophy, and delivering it safely to [Russia] by sending its group of fighters to intercept,’ said Rogozin, now based in the war zone.
‘The missile has just been handed over to one of our defence enterprises, whose specialists will decipher the control system algorithms of this dangerous missile weapon, and share them with air defence experts.’
The Russian salvage team ‘coped with the task, and have just reported to me the result’, he said.
The onboard radio-electronic equipment was intact, and a major prize for the Russians, said reports.
‘This can serve as an excellent help in the development of new modifications of ground-based and – preferably – air-based electronic warfare equipment,’ said one account.

In an earlier report, Channel One state TV in Russia said a Storm Shadow – made jointly by the UK and France but solely supplied to Ukraine by Britain – had been recovered with its deadly warhead intact.
‘Our air defences have already many times debunked the myth that this weapon is unstoppable,’ said the TV correspondent.
‘But this time our warriors have achieved the impossible and obtained a virtually undamaged example.’
Russia also claimed to have downed two Su-25 warplanes in Donetsk region.
The planes are used to carry the Storm Shadow missiles.
