Secret United States stealth bomber will finally be shown off to the public

A super secret United States stealth bomber will finally be revealed to the public later this year.

The B-21 Raider has often been rumoured, but never confirmed by US military – until now.

US Senator Mike Rounds opened up about the plane after becoming the only elected official to join a classified visit last week.

He visited the actual factory where the plane is being made.

And he said it will make its first flight in 2023.

He said: “While much of the information I received on my visit is classified, I am pleased to report the B-21 is on time and on budget.

“The public can expect the B-21 to be revealed later this year.

“The B-21 is one of the most advanced aircraft to ever be developed.

“We are getting closer to bringing this state-of-the-art platform home to Ellsworth Air Force Base.”

What weapons the plane, the full title being Northrop Grumman B-21 Raider, will hold is as yet unknown, but it is thought to be a very long-range, heavy-payload stealth intercontinental strategic bomber capable of delivering conventional and thermonuclear weapons.

The unit – of which how many have been made is unknown so far – is thought to cost around £20 billion.

Senator Rounds added: “As we look to the future, I am working to ensure the base continues to receive full funding for the many equipment and support facilities that will be needed for the B-21 Raider mission at Ellsworth.

“There will be additional security improvements because this will be a bomber with nuclear capabilities.

“As a South Dakotan and a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I will remain engaged in Ellsworth's assumption of the B-21 mission, one which will help secure our nation for decades to come.”

It is hoped that the plane will be the focal point of the United States military for a generation, and could be used to fight Russian President Vladimir Putin should he decided to ramp up his invasion of Ukraine.
