A teenage rodeo rider has been left with horrific injuries after being flung from a bull and trampled on in front of horrified specators.

One of the top-ranked U18 bull riders in the nation, Jacob Kellett, was competing at the Caboolture show grounds just north of Brisbane, on Saturday when his ride turned into a nightmare.

The 15-year-old lost his grip just seconds in was bucked to the ground, where the rampaging animal stomped on his chest.

He suffered broken ribs and was rushed to hospital where doctors had to drain blood from his lungs.

Although he fell from the bull, Jacob posted a time that landed him as tied 24th for the competition.

Jacob Kellett (pictured), 15, had quickly risen to the 28th best bull-rider in Australia’s under-18 division but will have to spent eight to twelve weeks in recovery before competing again

Footage of the accident shows Jacob holding onto a rope tied to the bull as he completes a full revolution while the beast attempts to buck him off.

The teenager can then be seen curling up in pain after the bull stomps on his chest as rodeo clowns draw the animal away from the wounded rider.

A medical team saw to Jacob and an ultrasound was conducted before he left the show grounds to make sure his lungs were still expanding.

The injury will force the teenager into recovery for eight to 12 weeks before being able to return to the sport.

His mother, Karen, said she was thankful for the high quality equipment and medical team at the show for keeping her son safe.

‘That’s why they have the best equipment, thousand of dollars for a helmet from America, mouthguards, vests,  you don’t skimp on safety,’ she told The Courier Mail.

‘It took some worry away knowing that he was in good hands with the medical staff.’

She also revealed that although having faced a horrific injury, Jacob was not deterred from bull-riding and was watching the ‘cowboy channel’ from his hospital bed.
