Three young children tragically killed in mass shooting at private church school

    A shooter has opened fire at a primary school in the US leading to the death of at least three children and two adults.

    The incident took place in Nashville, Tennessee, on Monday (March 27), police have confirmed and the shooter is understood to have been killed.

    In a statement, the Metro Nashville Police Department said: “The shooter was engaged by MNPD and is dead".

    It killings took place at The Covenant School, a private Christian grade school consisting of around 200 pupils.

    the victims were taken to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital but were pronounced dead after arrival.

    Meanwhile, the shooter was "engaged by officers" leading to their death. The fire service for the area said it had been forced to deal respond to an "active aggressor" but details beyond that remain unclear.

    Scenes have emerged of children leaving the school hand in hand and surrounded by police cars, with parents understood to have been given a nearby location to meet at.

    Nashville Fire Department said on Monday morning: “We are responding to an active aggressor at 33 Burton Hills Blvd Covenant School.

    “We can confirm we have multiple patients.”

    In its statement on Twitter, Metro Nashville PD said: "An active shooter event has taken place at Covenant School, Covenant Presbyterian Church, on Burton Hills Dr.

    "The shooter was engaged by MNPD and is dead. Student reunification with parents is at Woodmont Baptist Church, 2100 Woodmont Blvd."

    Police are yet to officially confirm what the cause of death for the shooter was.
