Tragic last phone call between TOWIE restaurant bouncer and his wife shortly before he was killed is revealed as Elliot Wright says he is ‘absolutely devastated’ by his friend’s death

The widow of the doorman who died following an alleged assault at former TOWIE star Elliott Wright’s Spanish restaurant has claimed he called her to say he was worried about the number of drunken customers there.

Romina Acuna says she took the call from her Venezuelan-born husband Jose Rafael Pisani Pardo, 55, on Saturday evening just half an hour before he suffered the devastating head injuries that resulted in his death in hospital a day later. 

Revealing Jose’s tragic last call, Romina told Sur: ‘He said he would be home soon.

‘I told him I wanted him to come as soon as possible. But he never returned.’

Dad-of-three Elliott meanwhile shared a heartfelt tribute to his late employee on social media and confirmed he had temporarily closed his Olivia’s La Cala restaurant.

‘I am absolutely devastated at the loss of Jose – he was a dear friend and a colleague. The entire team are grieving a wonderful human being and I am supporting them… This will take me a long time to get over, if ever,’ the former reality star said. 

Elliott added the bar had been vandalised in the days since Jose’s death, which he said left him ‘in total disbelief’.

A British man aged 32 was arrested on Tuesday in the upmarket Costa del Sol resort of Marbella over the death.

Chilean-born Italian Romina was 23 years younger than her partner, whom she married in a glitzy ceremony in Las Vegas five months ago.

She told respected Malaga newspaper Sur today the couple were planning to start a family and wanted to set up a new business in the Canary Islands selling sports supplements.

She also revealed he was ‘frightened’ because there were a lot of drunken customers and she replied by telling him to be careful.

Saying he was planning on quitting his job as a doorman after the summer, Romina added: ‘He never liked working at night but in the summers it paid well and for a night like last weekend he could earn 150 euros.’

Police on Tuesday released footage showing heavily-armed officers escorting the arrested British man to a waiting car in handcuffs.

He has not been named and has only been identified so far by his initials – HGJS.

A Civil Guard spokesman said: ‘With regards to the death of a person following an assault, the Civil Guard in Mijas with the support of the GAR unit, have arrested the alleged author in Marbella.

‘He is a British national, who had been on the run since the incident.

‘He has been arrested on suspicion of causing the death of the person who lost his life following the incident at a restaurant in La Cala de Mijas.’

Late on Monday insiders confirmed police were hunting a British man amid unconfirmed reports Jose, a bodybuilder and personal trainer as well as a doorman at Elliott’s popular Costa del Sol eatery called Olivia’s La Cala, had been pushed or punched and lost his balance as he tried to restore calm.

Dad-of-three Elliott closed his restaurant in the resort of La Cala de Mijas for two days on Monday and admitted in a statement released on Olivia’s Instagram site: ‘Our hearts are broken and we have closed the restaurant today and tomorrow out of respect.

‘We are supporting our staff and the family whilst awaiting news of further investigations.’

The dead man was a proud dad to two grown-up children believed to be from a previous relationship.

Romina Acuna described her new fitness fanatic husband as the ‘love of my life’ in an emotional social media post after they wed and posed for photos before getting into a white stretch Limousine.

She moved to Mijas on the Costa del Sol at the start of 2021 from her previous base in Barcelona and the couple enjoyed a holiday together in Chile before tying the knot.

Officers took away CCTV footage from Elliott’s eatery, which was gutted in an arson attack two years ago, and was targeted by vandals with spray paint overnight on Monday, after interviewing staff the day Jose died in hospital.

He had been admitted to an intensive care unit at Malaga Regional University Hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He had been working as a doorman at Olivia’s La Cala for the past two years.

The results of a post-mortem believed to have taken place on Monday have not been revealed and are not expected to be officially made public but instead sent to an investigating judge heading an ongoing judicial probe into Jose’s death.

Local reports say the doorman hit his head on the corner of a table as he tried to intervene in a fracas.

But well-placed sources said he hit the back of his head directly on the floor and not a table, saying he went down as he tried to eject one of the unruly customers.

One said: ‘The local reports talk of a group of people fighting but it was between two people.

‘The doorman went down as he tried to eject one of the two men.’

Diario Sur reported today the CCTV footage the police obtained showed a man punching Jose after breaking free of him after he tried to restrain him following an outbreak of violence at the restaurant.
