Tragedy as woman, 58, dies after being hit by car while riding her mobility scooter on Christmas Eve

A woman has died after she was hit by car while riding her mobility scooter in West London – just minutes before Christmas Day.
The woman, 58, was travelling along Bedfont Road at around 11.50pm on Christmas Eve when she was hit.
Police and paramedics rushed to the scene where they found the woman injured.
Despite best efforts of paramedics, she died from her injuries.

Officers say her family has been informed and a specialist officer has been deployed to support them.
Police said the driver of the car immediately stopped at the scene of the collision and has assisted them in their enquiries. There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.
A spokesperson for the Met said: ‘Detectives are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in Hounslow.
‘Police were called to Bedfont Road at about 23:50hrs on Saturday, 24 December following reports of a collision involving a car and a mobility scooter.
‘The driver of the car immediately stopped at the scene of the collision and has assisted police in their enquiries. There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.’
Detectives from the Roads and Transport Policing Command are appealing for any witnesses or drivers in the area at the time to come forward. Officers would also like to hear from anyone who captured the collision on CCTV or dashcam.

The incident took place on the same Christmas weekend as a number of fatal car collisions.

Another 22-year-old woman was tragically killed in the early hours of this morning.
A 29-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in custody.
Patrolling officers, in a marked vehicle, attempted to stop one of the cars involved prior to the fatal incident on Hendon Road in Edgware, north London, but the car drove off.
The officers decided not to pursue the car but shortly after it was involved in a collision with another vehicle before hitting a lamp post nearby on the Brent Cross Flyover, further down the same road.

It comes as another woman was killed in a horrific collision with an unmarked police car on Friday.
Mother of three Heather Smedley, 53, was taken to hospital following the ‘short pursuit’ in Oldham, Greater Manchester, but died from her injuries.
