TWO men will go on trial accused of murdering a cricketer who died following an attack at a home.

Thomas 'Tommy' Barton, 30, died from his injuries on his way to hospital after the horror on the Isle of Wight.

Cameron Baker, 27, and 27-year-old Rio Scott appeared at Winchester Crown Court today charged with murder.

No pleas were entered but a provisional trial date was set for November 13.

Both men were remanded into custody to next appear for a hearing on September 15.

Police were scrambled to a home on Park Road, Ryde, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Tragically Tommy couldn't be saved and was declared dead on his way to hospital.

A 24-year-old woman from Shanklin who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on conditional bail.

Tommy played cricket for clubs in Ryde, Ventnor and Lymington.

In 2009, he scored a triple century while playing for Ryde Cavaliers and played in Ventnor’s starting 11 this season.

Following his death, Tommy's family paid an emotional tribute to him.

They said: “We are completely shattered at the loss of Tommy. He was a father, a son, a brother, an uncle and a friend to many.

“He has been stolen from us and we are completely heartbroken. He will miss out on so much of life, particularly seeing his beloved daughter grow up.

“The world is quieter without him in it and we will never fully recover. We are grateful for the support and love that we have received and hope you will all remember him as he was – a caring and generous man that lived his life to the maximum.

“We ask that you please respect our privacy at this time.”
