Experts warn the revelations Prince Andrew’s sex abuse accuser makes about paedophile Jeffrey Epstein will ’cause problems’ for the disgraced royal and Buckingham Palace as Andrew tries to restore his reputation. 

Virginia Giuffre accused the Duke of York of sexually abusing her when she was a minor under US law but Andrew has consistently denied the allegations.

Andrew, 62, recently told friends that his poor reputation could soon be restored, despite reports that the King and Prince William are ‘convinced he has no future as a working royal.’

Royal Commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told MailOnline today that Andrew’s public comeback is a ‘Sisyphean task’ and requires a ‘miracle, not public support from prison from Ghislaine Maxwell.’

Scepticism about the Duke’s alleged comeback come amid growing fears that Ms Giuffre’s forthcoming memoir will be released just weeks before the King’s coronation and overshadow the historic ceremony.

‘Andrew may have secured an agreement for Virginia Roberts Giuffre never to speak out against him publicly when he settled her civil suit which alleged that she had had non-consensual sex with him on three occasions,’ Mr Fitzwilliams warned.

‘If this is so, the fact that she is writing her memoir may not concern him and his legal team unduly. If not it will obviously be of very considerable concern.’

The royal expert, addressing multiple reports that Ms Giuffre has signed a book deal worth millions, says the memoir will ’cause problems for the Palace as whenever she is in the news it is linked in the public mind with him.’

‘Obviously any new revelations would be of enormous concern,’ he added.

Mr Fitzwilliams noted how reports indicate Andrew has been asked to ‘vacate his suite of rooms in Buckingham Palace.’

This comes after he was stripped of all military titles and patronages last year and ordered by Buckingham Palace not to use his HRH title. The Palace also ruled out a return to public duties. 

‘Andrew has undoubtedly been given hope by the settling of all legal issues between Giuffre and the top American lawyer Alan Dershowitz in which she admitted she “may have made a mistake” in claiming that he had abused her as a teenager,’ the expert alleged.

‘However to actually clear his name it would also be necessary to have some credibility in the court of public opinion where his ratings are terrible.

‘He is in disgrace, cannot use his “HRH” and carries out no royal duties. He has not been convicted of any crime so he sees no reason to do penance, but he promised to help the FBI in their investigations into Epstein’s crimes and does not appear to have done so.’

Mr Fitzwilliams also noted how Andrew denies ever meeting Giuffre yet the pair ‘appear’ to be pictured together with Maxwell in 2001. 

The expert continued, claiming the Duke’s interview with the BBC’s Emily Maitlis has become ‘infamous and has made a public comeback all but impossible.’

‘If he attends a royal event it can overshadow it and King Charles and William are convinced he has no future as a working royal,’ Mr Fitzwilliams argued. 

‘For a real comeback, which the public would accept, he needs a miracle and not public support from prison from Ghislaine Maxwell, his close friend who is also a convicted sex offender. It is a Sisyphean task.’

Fears are growing that King Charles’ coronation could be overshadowed by the release of Virginia Giuffre’s memoir

Multiple reports claim that Ms Giuffre, 39, has signed a book deal worth millions in which she is expected to detail her experience as a teenager in Epstein’s sex ring.  

She and Andrew are said to have agreed to a gag clause which will expire in March, a year after they settled her civil rape claim against him.

With this clause lifting within weeks, it is suspected that Ms Giuffre, who is married with children, will likely be free to publicly address how she was sex trafficked by Epstein and Maxwell.

Some suspect she may have agreed to not repeat her allegations about Andrew, or discuss him in relation to the criminal couple.

Publishing insiders have said that Ms Giuffre’s memoir could be released just weeks before Charles’ coronation, telling The Mirror: ‘There will be no bigger occasion for her book than the crowning of the king.’

‘All eyes will be on the royal family in the weeks leading up to Charles’s coronation,’ the insider alleged, noting that ‘book releases are all about timing.’

Ms Giuffre’s publisher wants to capitalise on the fact that a global audience will be talking about the May 6 coronation and what royal festivities Andrew will be invited to partake in.

The insider added that Ms Giuffre’s memoir, which is said to have been 12 years in the making, may not be able to directly repeat her allegations about the prince but will still ‘pour further embarrassment on Andrew, the royals and the biggest day of his own brother’s life.’

Ms Giuffre’s book deal is said to be worth ‘millions,’ multiple sources told the New York Post.

It also comes amid reports that Andrew has amassed a war chest worth as much as £10million in preparation to launch a legal challenge to his settlement with Ms Giuffre. The settlement is reported to be a considerable sum of money, with some estimates around £12million.

Meanwhile, The Daily Mail has revealed that Andrew has been assuring friends there is about to be a development which will restore his tainted reputation. 

The Duke of York is regularly voted the least popular member of the Royal Family and was stripped of his public duties following the revelations over his relationship with paedophile Epstein, yet his self-belief remains undiminished.  

If not quite back up to the heroic status he enjoyed as a helicopter pilot in the Falklands War, then at least to what it was before he was photographed in New York’s Central Park talking to Epstein, shortly after the latter’s release from prison in 2009 after serving a puzzlingly short sentence for sex offences.

‘He says that details are about to be made public which will change people’s perceptions of him,’ insiders told Richard Eden. ‘He says that it will happen next month.’ 

Although Andrew did not elaborate further, the Mail on Sunday reported at the weekend that he is to launch a dramatic bid to overturn the multi-million-pound settlement he struck with Giuffre. 

It is understood Andrew has consulted lawyers in an attempt to get Giuffre to retract her allegations and possibly secure an apology.

He was inspired to act after Ms Giuffre dropped her lawsuit against another man she accused of sexual assault, admitting that she ‘may have made a mistake’ in identifying him.

But Ms Giuffre has always maintained her case against the Duke was valid.

Andrew’s relationship with Epstein was raised once again in a bombshell interview with Maxwell on TalkTV.

Speaking from prison, Maxwell said Prince Andrew was a ‘dear friend’ and said the accusations against him were unfounded.

In her first TV interview since she was jailed for child sex trafficking, the British socialite also claimed the infamous photo of her, Andrew and Ms Giuffre was a ‘fake’.

Andrew is expected to claim that he never met Ms Giuffre and to argue that the photo is fake in his future legal action.

However, several high-profile forensic experts who have examined the photo, in which Andrew has his arm around a young Ms Giuffre, have said they believe it to be real.

Ms Giuffre alleges she was groomed by Epstein and his associate Maxwell, and forced to have sex with him on several occasions.

Andrew denied ever meeting Ms Giuffre in a disastrous Newsnight interview in 2019. 

He famously claimed he was at a Pizza Express in Woking at the time of one of the incidents mentioned by his accuser.

The son of the late Queen Elizabeth has suffered a series of humiliations since his car crash Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis in November 2019, as institutions have severed ties with him. 

The most shattering blow, Mr Eden was told, was the abrupt curtailment of his role as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, reported by the Daily Mail just before Christmas.

He had already withdrawn from duties with the Grenadiers but had done so in the belief that he would, in time, return to them.

‘He says that Her Majesty [Queen Elizabeth] gave him her word that stepping down was only a temporary measure. He says that he wasn’t told in advance that he was about to be booted out, nor, obviously, that Camilla would be replacing him. He says that he just heard about it ”in the media”.’
