When they got to East Putney tube station, they split up as the family decided to go shopping.
Vishal was heading home, some 300 yards away, and was last spotted crossing the road near Carlton Drive.
That was the last time Vishal was ever seen.
Following his disappearance, an extensive search ensued. with some 300 people and police using thermal imaging cameras.
The case went cold for almost a year before some new leads came to light and further investigations continued.
Finally, two pigeon shooters stumbled across a human skull in Rogate, Sussex and later found a rib cage in a deep bog nearby.
The remains were subsequently identified as Vishal Mehrotra.
Following the discovery, Vishal’s remains were cremated, according to Hindu tradition, and he was flown to India for immersion in the Ganges.
No other remains – or clothing – was found so it was difficult to determine how Vishal died.
However, it was widely accepted that he had been abducted and murdered due to the fact that he was found 30 miles from his home and buried in a bog.
It was determined that Vishal had probably been murdered on or around the same day he disappeared.

Several years after moving to the country, Vishambar and Aruba split up.
She flew back to India to manage a jewellery business at the time of the disappearance.
