How long is Darren Osborne's sentence?

On February 1, 2018, Osborne was found guilty of murder and attempted murder by a jury following a trial at Woolwich Crown Court in South London.

The jury, who took less than an hour to convict Osborne, heard how the killer had boasted he wanted to "cause as much damage as possible".

Darren pleaded not guilty, claiming he had an accomplice but had "no idea" the supposed man was set to carry out the attack.

Osborne claimed during the trial a "guy called Dave” was really behind the incident.

The second man did not appear on any of the CCTV footage and Osborne told the court: "He's like Dynamo, an illusionist. He can make himself vanish, perhaps. I don't know."

Prosecutor Jonathan Rees said: "The real truth is that none of this happened. You were the only person in the van and all of this is just a desperate attempt to place Dave in the driver's seat."

Osborne also admitted to plotting to kill Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, during the trial.

His partner Sarah Andrews told the jury how he had become "obsessed with Muslims" after watching the BBC drama Three Girls.

Cops also believe loner Osborne's mind was also warped by researching neo-Nazi material on the internet.

Osborne was jailed for life with a minimum term of 43 years and is serving his sentence at at HMP Frankland in County Durham.

He was previously being held at HMP Wakefield.

Darren has been targeted a number of times since beginning his sentence.

In 2019 he had boiling water thrown in his face in a suspected revenge attack and the following year he suffered a forehead wound and splinter in his right eye after an attack with a sharpened paintbrush handle.

In February 2023 he was ambushed by an inmate with a "shank" knife.

The attack was said to have badly scarred the dad of four.
