Tim Davie’s career as BBC chief is surely holed below the waterline

He went on to spend six years as the Secretary of State for Health, from September 2012 to July 2018.

He became Foreign Secretary in 2018, but didn't keep the job when Boris became PM in 2019.

In January 2020, Hunt was elected Chair of the Health and Social Care Select Committee with support across all parties.

After three years on the backbenches, the twice-failed candidate to be PM was parachuted into the second most powerful job in Government by Liz Truss, when she made him Chancellor.

When was Jeremy Hunt appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer?

On October 14, 2022, Hunt was appointed to the role of Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Following the market meltdown unleashed in his mini budget, former Prime Minister Liz Truss appointed Hunt after firing Kwasi Kwarteng.

As Britain’s fourth chancellor in as many months, it now falls to him to steer the country through the most economically febrile period in  post-war history.

However, Truss' decision cost her the job of PM, after he reversed her mini budget with a bombshell statement.

He scrapped:

  • the rise of corporation tax from 19% to 25%
  • removed the 45% top income tax rate for high earned
  • cut the basic rate of income tax by 1p to 19p
  • the freezing rates on alcohol duty
  • tax-free shopping for non-UK visitors

He also decided to change the length of the £2,500 energy price cap and announced that it will only last until April 2023 rather than April 2024.

After just 44 days, Liz Truss resigned from her position and now Hunt is working hand-in-hand with Rishi Sunak.

Longtime pal Steve Brine MP said Mr Hunt would manage the government like a “chief executive” to Ms Truss’s “chairmanship”.

Is Jeremy Hunt married and does he have children?

Jeremy Hunt has been married to Lucia Guo – from China – since July 2009.

Lucia was dubbed Hunt's "secret weapon".

Together they have three children, Jack, Anna, and Eleanor.
