Who is Pat Cullen?

Pat Cullen was born in Carrickmore, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland in 1965, as the youngest of seven children.

Of the six girls her parents had, four of them became nurses.

She is a nurse and trade unionist.

She became the General Secretary and Chief Executive of the Royal College of Nursing in July 2021.

What is Pat Cullen's salary at RCN?

Cullen’s salary is believed to be around £197,000 per year.

It was reported by The Sun that Pat earned £100,697for eight and a half months of work the year before she assumed her post as General Secretary.

What organisations has Pat Cullen worked for?

Pat began her nursing career as a mental health nurse, before working as a community nurse in West Belfast during the Troubles.

She is still a qualified and registered psychotherapist and was a community psychiatric nurse in Twinbrook and Poleglass.

She became the Assistant Director of Mental Health Services and Professional Head of Nursing in a local trust.

Pat then joined the Department of Health as a Nursing Officer in 2001.

Pat went on to hold roles in both the Public Health Agency and the Health and Social Care Board, before joining the RCN in 2016.

She was appointed as the acting General Secretary after Dame Donna Kinnair stepped down in June 2021.

Pat became acting General Secretary in April 2021 and took up the role permanently in July 2021.

Is Pat Cullen married and does she have children?

Pat is married to husband Enda, who is also a healthcare professional, working as a GP in south Belfast.

The couple tied the knot over 30 years ago.

They have two children, a son Shane and a daughter Teresa.

Shane followed in his parent's footsteps, training to become a doctor.

Pat told the Belfast Telegraph of her daughter's free spirit.

"She also bought a van and fitted it out herself and I went travelling with her in it to Sicily recently – it was the most wonderful fun."
