William told Harry he had 'been brainwashed by therapy' during a row

William told Harry he had ‘been brainwashed by therapy’ during a row and was so worried he even asked to go to sessions with him, Duke claims in his explosive memoir

  • Prince of Wales believed his brother was being ‘brainwashed’ by his therapist
  • Prince Harry claims in memoir that Prince William asked to come to a session
  • Accuses Prince William of believing that his mental health meant he was ‘unwise’
  • Bombshell is just the latest in the explosive claims made in Prince Harry’s book

Prince William believed that his brother Harry was being ‘brainwashed’ by the therapist he was seeing, the younger Royal has claimed in his explosive memoirs.

The Duke of Sussex says his sibling was so worried about what he was being exposed to at his confidential sessions that he even asked to come along to one.

Harry also accuses William of believing ‘I was unwell, which meant I was unwise’ as he made plans to leave Royal duties for a new life abroad.

The Duke also says he tried to patch up their relationship with a joint therapy session, telling William it would ‘be good for you. Good for us’.

The allegations are expected to dismay the Prince of Wales, who has publicly supported mental health causes on several occasions

But William did not take up the offer.

The latest claims from Harry’s bombshell autobiography, Spare, are revealed ahead of an ITV interview with Harry tonight. In the programme, he talks about the ‘guilt’ of smiling while greeting grieving crowds who had gathered to mourn his mother at Kensington Palace after her death in August 1997, days before his 13th birthday.

He reveals that he cried for his mother only once, when she was laid to rest at Althorp after her Westminster Abbey funeral.

Spare, which is due to be published on Tuesday, mistakenly went on sale in Spain last week, sparking a flurry of early revelations. The Mail on Sunday has now obtained an exclusive copy of the English language version of the book and we can reveal that:

SARAH VINE: It’s not Meghan who is like Diana… It’s Harry

  • Harry makes the bombshell claim that William ‘lunged at him’ after the funeral of Prince Philip in a dramatic showdown as the Duke complained he had been ‘stripped of everything’ when he stepped away from Royal duties;
  • Harry becomes the first member of the Royal Family to openly criticise Prince Andrew over allegations of sexual abuse – which he has always denied – saying his uncle was ‘embroiled in a shameful scandal’;
  • William allegedly tried to force Harry to shave his beard for his wedding to Meghan Markle, and that he and Kate sparked a row when they changed the place settings to follow the tradition that couples aren’t usually seated together;
  • Harry dismissively gave the leading Royal aides insect nicknames: Bee, Fly and Wasp;
  • Meghan accepted freebies while in the palace, in breach of protocol, but Harry says she shared them with staff;
  • Harry uses vulgar language, saying: ‘I couldn’t stop thinking like a f***ing Royal’;
  • Harry denies ranting at the Queen’s dresser ‘What Meghan wants, Meghan gets’ in a wedding row over a royal tiara;
  • Oprah Winfrey, Coldplay’s Chris Martin and James Corden are among the stars thanked in the acknowledgements.

We can also reveal that military veterans have called mental health services after being ‘triggered’ by Harry’s admission that he killed 25 Taliban fighters, and that an inflammatory rant by hate preacher Anjem Choudary vilifying the Prince as a ‘Muslim killer’ has sparked security concerns for the Royal Family and UK Armed Forces.

Meanwhile, the Royal Family continues to maintain a dignified public silence over the controversial book.

Those close to the palace are aghast at Harry’s continued assault on his family despite his repeated claims that he wants to be reconciled with them

Sources say they are relieved the Queen was spared the wounding revelations, while Prince Philip would have been ‘horrified’ by Harry’s lurid tales of drugs and sex.

A friend of the Royal Family said William was ‘privately seething’ about the book’s revelations, especially the disclosure of private medical information about the Princes in childhood.

Prince William is said to be ‘seething’ about the private medical information shared by his brother in the tell-all memoir

They added: ‘There is anger within the family for sharing such things. William is upset but also embarrassed about the deeply personal matters Harry has included in this book.’

Another well-placed insider said: ‘Harry always had a deep animosity towards the media. He was deeply paranoid about the press and Meghan made that worse.

‘He accuses his family of negatively briefing against him but there is no evidence of that. Ironically, there can be no more powerful negative briefing against a family member than what he’s doing now. People will remember the drugs and sex stories. These are the ones that will stick in the mind.’

The insider also cast doubt on Harry’s claim that William and Kate had helped him choose a Nazi fancy dress uniform in 2005 that sparked a furore.

Harry paints a picture of his older brother as a manipulative influence who tried to control almost every aspect of his wedding to Meghan

 We can also reveal that military veterans have called mental health services after being ‘triggered’ by Harry’s admission that he killed 25 Taliban fighters

The source said: ‘He certainly didn’t mention that aspect of the story to anyone in the palace at the time.’

In Harry’s book, his father is presented as a kindly but deeply flawed character – but family friends deny Harry’s claims that the King did not hug his sons when they were young.

It is William who comes in for the most damaging criticism.

Harry paints a picture of his older brother as a manipulative influence who tried to control almost every aspect of his wedding to Meghan – from trying to force Harry to shave his beard to changing the seating plan without Harry’s consent.

Harry’s comments about the Duke of York come when discussing his own security arrangements.

When Meghan asks him one night whether their protection would ever be removed, Harry tells her: ‘Never. Not in this climate of hate. And not after what happened to my mother.

‘Also, not in the wake of my Uncle Andrew. He was embroiled in a shameful scandal, accused of the sexual assault of a young woman, and no one had so much as suggested that he lose his security.

‘Whatever grievances people had against us, sex crimes weren’t on the list.’

Prince Harry’s interview with ITV will air on Sunday evening at 9pm and the Prince will give further interviews later this week

There is more to come. Tonight, after Harry’s interview with Tom Bradby airs on ITV at 9pm, America’s CBS network will screen an interview with respected US broadcaster Anderson Cooper.

Later in the week, two more US interviews will be broadcast to promote the book: with Good Morning America presenter Michael Strahan on Monday and late-night TV host Stephen Colbert on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, former school friends shared private recollections of a young Prince Harry from his party days – some of which do not feature in his memoirs.

One joked: ‘I could write a book of my own, but I wouldn’t stoop that low.’
