Woman found dead in her home in Surrey village after cops rush to welfare call as man and woman in their 60s arrested | The Sun

AN ELDERLY couple have been arrested after a woman in her 50s was found dead in her home in a Surrey Village.

The pair, both in their 60s, were taken into custody last night as part of a murder probe into the mysterious death.

The alleged murder victim was found in a property in Ash, Surrey, at around 5.50pm that day.

Cops and paramedics rushed to the home after a call raising concern for the woman's welfare.

The murdered woman has not yet been formally identified.

A Home Office pathologist was expected to carry out a post-mortem examination on the body today to determine the cause of death.

Surrey Police confirmed the arrests and that both suspects remain in custody.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Officers were called to a property in Church View at around 5.50pm by the South East Coast Ambulance Service following a concern for safety.

"On arrival, a woman aged in her 50s was sadly found dead inside the property.

"An investigation, led by Surrey and Sussex’s Major Crime Team, is now underway to establish the circumstances of the woman’s death and inquiries remain ongoing."

Inspector Blaine Rafferty added: "The investigation is in the early stages as we work to establish the cause and circumstances around this death. However, we do not believe there is any risk to the wider public.

"We have a dedicated team of investigators working on this case and specialist forensic officers remain at the scene.

"I would like to thank local residents for their cooperation as we conduct our investigation, and we will provide further updates as the investigation progresses."
