Woman hired bloke to cut baby from pregnant victim’s stomach for her
A woman and bloke who killed a pregnant woman and cut her unborn child from her womb have had an appeal denied.
In October 2017, Joelma Keila Santana da Silva was accused of cutting the belly of the seven-month-pregnant victim alongside her partner, Alex Silva Carvalho, so she could raise the child as her own.
Joelma reasoned that she had just lost a child of her own and that's why the alleged act was committed.

Charges levied against the pair included aggravated homicide, destruction and concealment of a corpse and concealment of a newborn.
They admitted their crimes and were jailed for 23 years and eight months and 21 years and three months respectively.
The crime took place in the municipality of São Sebastião do Uatumã, 153 from Manaus, in northwestern Brazil.
According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, Joelma hired Alex for R$4,000 – less than £650 – to find a woman who was pregnant with the aim of getting her child.
Alex knew the victim, Karoline do Canto Silva, and knew that she was pregnant, Globo reported.

Reports at the time suggested that he invited her to his house to eat and drugged her, before he took her to a field and strangled her. He cut out the baby and abandoned the victim's body, reports stated.
The body was found the next day, without the child.
The victim's mother reported to the police that her daughter had gone out on a motorcycle with the defendant, who was then located in the neighbouring city of Itapiranga. In addition to him, Joelma was also found with the child, who survived.
At the time, the arrested couple was transferred to Manaus for security reasons. Recently, Joelma asked to be tried in Itacoatiara but this was denied by the Court of Justice of Amazonas.
