Woman terrified by creepy text asking if she ‘lives alone’ when ordering pizza

A 21-year-old woman has been left terrified after a take away sent a weird message asking if she "lives alone" after ordering a pizza.

Kaitlin Reakes, from Newport, ordered a pizza before she was later sent creepy text messages such as “Do you live alone?” and “Are you single?”.

It was later revealed that the messages had allegedly come from a staff member from the food place, who admitted he had retrieved her number from the order.

However, the takeaway boss denies his staff were involved and believes the number could have been on paper attached to the order, which may have fallen off.

Kaitlin described her horror and fear when she got the messages after ordering the food on July 30 at the Golden Grill on Malpas Road.

The admit assistant, who’d left her boyfriend Fraser in the car, went inside the restaurant to order the food.

She had originally wanted to pay via Apple Pay on her mobile as she was without any cash or bank cards.

However, a member of staff told her that wouldn't be possible and instead suggested she order and pay online via their website – which asks for a verified phone number as part of the process.

After ordering, Kaitlin and her boyfriend went home and thought nothing of it.

But the next day Kaitlin’s phone began receiving several messages.

The unrecognised sender began bombarding her with questions wanting to meet up.

Understandably, Kaitlin became irate when the man refused to say who he was and how he had her number.

She had said in the message: “"Just tell me who you are or I'm not talking to you anymore – I've asked you three times now."

The man nonchalantly reported that he had “found her number by chance” which was followed by another question asking “Boyfriend or married?”

He then later said he had met Kaitlin “at the disco” before eventually admitting to have been the “guy from the food place" with him admitting Kaitlin had entered “her number there.”

This admittance prompted her boyfriend to confront the man at the restaurant.

"His first response was that his staff would not have had access to my number so it couldn't have been any of them," said Kaitlin.

"But he then conceded that it could be possible and added that he would speak to everyone who was working that night and get back to us.

"He also apologised, but after supposedly 'looking through his employees' phones' he claimed not to have found anything."

Kaitlin took the matter to the police, who will be dealing with it accordingly.

Speaking to WalesOnline, Orhan Aksoy, manager of the Golden Grill, said that he had checked with his staff and none of their mobiles corresponded with number which had contacted Kaitlin.

He also said it was possible the collection ticket, which had her name and phone number on it, could've fallen off her order outside the shop and been picked up by somebody passing by.

"I've been in business around Newport for 20 years and have always treated my customers like family – I would never put up with any of my staff doing such a thing," he added.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police said, "We've received a report regarding an allegation of harassment and enquiries are ongoing."
