Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly joke with King Charles

Ant McPartlin shakes hands with King Charles as he and Declan Donnelly share a joke with the monarch at Prince’s Trust reception

Prince’s Trust ambassadors Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly were seen greeting King Charles III at a Buckingham Palace reception for the charity on Wednesday.

Saturday Night Takeaway host Ant, 47, flashed a big grin as he shook the monarch’s hand at the event for Prince’s Trust Awards winners and celebrity ambassadors.

Ant looked dapper for the regal occasion in a navy three piece suit, which he wore with a white shirt and blue tie and a polka dot pocket square.

He was also notably wearing a Prince’s Trust pin on his lapel.

Never far from his side, his co-host Declan, also 47, looked equally smart in a dark suit with a striped tie.

Something appeared to have amused the group as they all laughed and joked together at the official meeting.

Ant and Dec are celebrity ambassadors for the King’s charity, which was set up while he held the title of Prince.

The palace gettogether came a day after the Prince’s Trust Awards, which was held at The Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London on Tuesday evening.

The TV double act were among guests at the ceremony and were later seen departing with their wives after the event.

Elsewhere at the reception, Geri Horner was looking for a royal pardon from King Charles, 26 years after she cheekily kissed him on the cheek and patted his bum.

The Spice Girls star, 50, has met the King several times over the years and looked happy to see one another again as they shared a hug at the star-studded event.

Geri even gave Charles an encouraging pep talk, telling him ‘you’re a very modern king’ after kissing him on both cheeks.

Ginger Spice also told King Charles she is ‘very proud’ of him.

Geri later said: ‘I just think he’s a modern king, and when he was 28 years old he started the Prince’s Trust.

‘He could have been out partying, instead he created this amazing organisation – a modern king that believed in investing in the potential and possibility of people.’

Charles invited those recognised during Tuesday’s Prince’s Trust awards to the palace along with the celebrities who presented the honours, including Hollywood star Stanley Tucci, British actor Stephen Graham, Edward Enninful, editor-in-chief of British Vogue, musician and producer Nile Rodgers and the event’s hosts Ant and Dec.

This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby left the show early to attend the palace event by herself, as reports continued of a rift with co-host and fellow Prince’s Trust ambassador Phillip Schofield.

At one point the King was left amazed when he took part in a magic trick performed by magician Dynamo, whose big break came after he was awarded a Prince’s Trust grant.

In 1997, the Spice Girls met King Charles to celebrate the 21st Anniversary Of The Prince’s Trust charity – and were very cheeky.

Mel B asked Charles out for dinner and broke royal protocol by giving him a kiss on the cheek.

‘You should get your tongue pierced’, she told him, before Emma Bunton asked where Prince William was.

Friendly greeting: Geri even gave Charles an encouraging pep talk, telling him ‘you’re a very modern king’ after kissing him on both cheeks.

But Geri went one step further and told him ‘you’re very sexy’ and gave him a big red lipstick kiss on the cheek and a ‘pat’ on the bum.

The Spice Girls star spoke about her flirty behaviour with the royal years later.

‘I didn’t pinch Prince Charle’s bum, as was reported. I patted it,’ she said. ‘Patting him on the bottom was against royal protocol but we’re all human.

‘There was a lot of nervous energy, young women, happy antics.’

The pair became good friends with Charles even writing to Geri when she announced her departure from the Spice Girls.

He wrote: ‘The group will not be the same without you.

‘What will I do without your wonderfully friendly greeting?

‘Really wanted you to know how deeply I’ve appreciated your great generosity to my Prince’s Trust and how much I wish you well for whatever the future holds.’
