Bethenny Frankel Likens Meghan Markle to Housewife Who Can’t Move On

CNN host Don Lemon also criticizes the Duchess of Sussex after she discussed colorism in a new episode of her podcast ‘Archetypes’ while she comes from a position of privilege.

AceShowbizBethenny Frankel shares some advice to Meghan Markle amid her drama with British royal family. In a new episode of her “Just B with Bethenny Frankel” podcast, “The Real Housewives of New York City” alum called out the Duchess of Sussex for not being able to “let it go.”

Comparing the mom of two to a Housewife who can’t move on from the franchise, Bethenny said in the Thursday, September 1 episode, “She’s very much like a Housewife in that she can’t stop talking about the very thing that she wants to be irrelevant.”

“[It’s like] when you … want to separate from the Housewives. ‘It was toxic, I don’t want to be part of the drama,’ or whatever the housewife says,” she continued. “[But] then … for the next five years, always talking about the very thing you’re trying to extricate yourself from.”

The Skinnygirl founder also said, “When you leave the royal family, leave the royal family. You learned something, you said it, we heard you. … and [still] in every single interview you do you’re talking about the royal family. Let it go Elsa. Move forward. Create change in the future.”

Also criticizing Meghan was CNN host Don Lemon. In the Wednesday episode of “New Day“, the anchor weighed in on the Duchess talking about race in the second episode of her podcast “Archetypes”. While Don applauded Meghan for speaking out about colorism, he wanted to note that Meghan came from a position of privilege as she “did not have to deal with racism” until she married Prince Harry.

“I commend Meghan Markle for going there, even though it is a bit shocking that at 30-some years of age, she is just understanding what it’s like to be a black woman in America,” Don said. “In some ways, she’s saying that she had privilege and so therefore it didn’t apply to her because it never happened to her. Right?”

He added, “She was a mixed woman. People didn’t really know how to react to her. They didn’t know if she was black or white, but she didn’t get the full black treatment because people weren’t sure that she was, you know, black. I think most African-Americans probably looked at her and said, ‘oh, I know that’s a black woman,’ but I think the larger culture may not have realized that.”

“But […] she is coming from is a place of privilege where she did not have to deal with racism until she married a white man. And she’s got all this criticism and all this attention,” Don continued. “And suddenly she understood or understands what it’s like to be part of a group of people, especially women in this country or in Europe, who are discriminated against. So I think it was it was eye-opening for her. It’s certainly real.”

In the podcast episode, Meghan, whose estranged father Thomas is white and her mother Doria is black, shared her reaction when guest Mariah Carey first came on the music scene. At the time, she thought, “Oh my gosh. Someone who looks like me. She’s mixed like me.” She added, “Because we’re light skinned, you are not treated as a black woman. You’re not treated as a white woman. You sort of fit in between.”

“If there is any time where there was more focus on my race it was when I started dating my husband,” the former “Suits” actress said. “Then I started to understand what it was like to be treated like a black woman because up until then I was treated as a mixed woman and things really shifted.”
