Brendan Fraser fans boycott Golden Globes 2023 awards to support actor

Brendan Fraser fans BOYCOTT Golden Globes after The Whale star revealed he WON’T attend ceremony despite being nominated – after accusing ex-Hollywood Foreign Press Association president of groping him in 2003

  • The 54-year-old confirmed in November he wouldn’t be attending the event
  • It comes after he accused Hollywood Foreign Press Association former president Philip Berk of groping him back in 2003
  • The actor came forward with the allegations in a 2018 interview with GQ
  • He said the incident, ‘made me retreat’ and he felt like, ‘something had been taken away from me’
  • The Mummy actor has been nominated for his performance in The Whale
  • It is the Hollywood star’s first ever Golden Globe Award nod

Brendan Fraser fans have called for all those who support the actor to boycott the Golden Globe Awards ceremony, which The Whale star has chosen not to attend this year following claims he was assaulted in 2003 by the organization’s former president.

Despite being nominated for the Best Actor gong for his performance in The Whale, the 54-year-old confirmed in November that he would ‘not participate’ in the Los Angeles-based event on January 10 due to his history with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).

Following his 2018 revelation that he had been groped by former president Philip Berk at a 2003 Beverly Hills luncheon, which the latter denied, the actor’s fans have shown their allegiance by refusing to tune in the NBC broadcast.

One passionate fan tweeted: ‘If you care about Brendan Fraser, you’ll boycott the Golden Globes.’

Another added: ‘By the way, if you care about Brendan Fraser and the unnamed hundreds of others who were assaulted then you should boycott the golden globes.

‘Can’t claim to support him and then support the very organization that robbed his career from him in the first place.’

‘Excited to not watch the golden globes tonight and support Brendan Fraser instead,’ one Twitter user added.

Another stated: ‘In honor and respect for Brendan Fraser, I won’t be watching the Golden Globes…’

‘We will be watching the mummy starring Brendan Fraser instead of the #GoldenGlobes,’ one film fan revealed online.

Speaking about his decision to stay away from the event, Fraser told GQ last year: ‘I have more history than I have respect for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. No, I will not participate…

‘It’s because of the history that I have with them. And my mother didn’t raise a hypocrite. You can call me a lot of things, but not that.’

The former HFPA President Philip Berk has dismissed Fraser’s accusations as a ‘total fabrication’.

The 2023 Golden Globes will be hosted by black comedian Jerrod Carmichael, making the actor the show’s first ever Black solo host.

It is once again at The Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills following a one year break from screens amid controversy over ethical lapses and a lack of diversity.

The return to air is the hope of a fresh start for the embattled HPFA – which puts on the Globes – since it overhauled its organization following a racism row.

Berk was ultimately expelled from the HFPA in April 2021, after 44 years and serving eight terms as president

The HFPA scandal erupted in 2021 when it emerged there were no black members among the 87-person association.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler called out the association live during their opening monologue in February of that year.

‘The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is made up of around 90 international no black journalists who attend movie junkets each year in search of a better life.’

‘We say around 90 because a couple of them might be ghosts,’ Fey said.

Stars threatened to boycott the awards and Tom Cruise, who had won three Globes in the past, vowed to return them all unless the association changed its ways.

In April 2021, the association’s former president Phil Berk was fired for his resistance to BLM.
