Butthole Surfers Drummer Teresa Taylor Dead At 60

Teresa Taylor, an early drummer for the indie rock band Butthole Surfers, died Sunday, June 18, of lung disease. She was 60 years old.

Taylor, aka Teresa Nervosa, was also an actor known for her role in Richard Linklater‘s 1990 film Slacker.

She was born in Arlington, Texas, in 1962. In high school, she took up the drums after playing in various marching bands in Austin and Fort Worth alongside fellow Butthole Surfers drummer King Coffey.

Taylor joined Butthole Surfers in 1983 and played with the band through 1989, performing on Psychic… Powerless… Another Man’s Sac, Cream Corn from the Socket of Davis, Rembrandt Pussyhorse, Locust Abortion Technician, and Hairway to Steven, among others.

Shortly after leaving the band in 1989, Taylor was diagnosed with an aneurysm and subsequently underwent brain surgery. She also started to suffer from strobe light-induced seizures.

In 1993, she underwent brain surgery and was able to perform again, joining Coffey’s band Rubble.

In the 1990 film, Slacker, Taylor played a woman who was trying to sell a pap smear from Madonna. Taylor’s character, listed as “Pap smear Pusher,” also appeared on the movie’s poster and subsequent home video media covers.
