It is a trendy concept among celebrities keen to present their authentic selves to the world.

But Cate Blanchett has ridiculed the idea of speaking ‘my truth’, saying: ‘The truth is the truth, isn’t it?’

It comes after US chat show host Oprah Winfrey famously used the phrase in her interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex last year when she asked Meghan about speaking ‘your truth’.

But Miss Blanchett, 53, admitted she doesn’t understand the concept, which is now used as a way of stating one’s personal opinion or experience.

Honesty: In the interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, she added: ‘One of the phrases I just cannot say is ‘my truth’

She said: ‘There’s an exercise at drama school where you write down everything a character says about themselves and then what every other character says about them.

‘Somewhere between those often contrapuntal, contradictory things lies some version of the truth.’

In the interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, she added: ‘One of the phrases I just cannot say is ‘my truth’.

‘I mean, the truth is the truth, isn’t it? Language is so important. ‘My perspective’ is one thing but ‘my truth’? I don’t know what that is!’

Miss Blanchett, who played a TV producer in the 2015 political drama Truth with Robert Redford, stressed how important it is to ‘speak honestly with one another’.

After Meghan’s interview, presenter Andrew Neil mocked the idea of ‘my truth’, saying it represented self-obsession and that ‘my truth matters more than whatever the factual situation is’.
