Investigative journalist Tom Bower appeared on Virgin Radio on Monday morning to discuss his new royal book, Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors. In researching for the unauthorised biography, Tom says he spoke to more than 80 insiders close to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, including Meghan’s father Thomas Markle.

Tom also says he has had access to Meghan’s “ex boyfriends, ex employers and people she has bruised along the way”.

Describing the book to Chris Evans’ listeners, Tom said: “It is a compelling tale of success and also failure.”

Chris’ co-host, Sinead, then probed the journalist: “How do you know that the people you are speaking to, that are friends with Meghan, that they are telling you the truth?

“How do you know that they don’t have an agenda themselves to get well known?”

Tom replied: “Well, to tell you the truth, I spoke to very few of her friends because she put a stop on anyone talking to me, who she could.

“I sent off dozens and dozens of emails to her friends and most of them didn’t even reply.

“There were a few people who were sympathetic to her.

“He said, ‘You know, whatever she is, she is still my daughter’.”

“But my job then is always to distil and separate what can’t be proven or flag up what is vitriol rather than fact.”

As well as penning the royal book, Tom has also authored biographies on Boris Johnson, Bernie Ecclestone, Richard Branson, Jeremy Corbyn, and more.

Famously, Tom’s 2012 book on Simon Cowell – Sweet Revenge: The Intimate Life of Simon Cowell – revealed intimate details about the media mogul’s life.

These included revelations about Simon’s alleged relationship with fellow X Factor judge Dannii Minogue and his relationship with former fiancee Mezhgan Hussainy.

Tom Bower’s new biography, Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors, will be released on Thursday, July 21.
