Deborah James final words to Eamonn Holmes two weeks before her death
Eamonn Holmes has revealed the last words Dame Deborah James said to him before she passed away as he gave tribute to the brave BBC podcaster.
Deborah died on Tuesday 28 June at the age of 40 surrounded by family after battling stage four bowel cancer.
The star opened up about her fight on social media as she received at-home hospice care in the last weeks of her life and amassed millions of fans with her honesty about suffering with the disease.
Eamonn, 62, was among those, and posted a photo in tribute showing him sharing a moment with Deborah as they chatted away along with his wife Ruth Langsford.
In the picture, the late star is seen sat in her wheelchair at the races and is wearing a blue polka dot dress with a straw hat as Ruth, 62, is bent down beside her and Eamonn is standing next to her.
The veteran presenter wrote: “Bye Dame Deborah. This was just 2 weeks ago at Ascot. She told us then that she had been given just a week to live and had already out lasted that by 2 weeks. May you #RestinPeace."
Deborah was accompanied at the races earlier this month by her brother and his fiancée and relayed to followers how much she enjoyed her outing at the time.
She wrote on her BowelBabe Instagram page: "Yesterday was really special as with a lot of effort and help I actually made it to @ascotracecourse once again.
"I honestly have to pinch myself that I’ve been well enough each day to do something like this. Another favourite I’d had in mind and a fab milestone to say 'ain't dead yet!'
The brave star continued: "Obviously like most haven’t been for a while due to covid, but so nice to be back and thank you to @ascotracecourse for making the whole experience for me and my brother just seamless and achievable for me.
"Memories made, but most importantly I got 3 wins in a row and am still bouncing off the ceiling from them still!!!"
In May, Deborah revealed that she no longer knew how much time she had left as she continued to battle stage four cancer.
During her last few weeks she was able to visit the Chelsea Flower Show for a private tour also as she laid eyes on her rose there, named after her in honour by The Harkness Rose company.
