Gogglebox: Dave and Shirley’s dog refuses to go outside

Channel 4 legends Dave and Shirley Griffiths have driven fans into a frenzy with an old holiday photograph where they look worlds away from Gogglebox.

Gogglebox stars Dave, 65, and Shirley Griffiths, 66, sparked a frenzy on social media last week after sharing a throwback picture of themselves looking almost unrecognisable on holiday in Benidorm.

The snap shows them, back in what appears to be the early 1990s, sitting beside each other enjoying themselves with a pal.

Dave is seen holding up a bottle of beer while Shirley, sporting curly dark hair and a yellow mini dress with high heels, kicks her leg up for the camera.

“Me and shirley in the day happy times #benidorm #funinthesun #holidays #tui,” Dave captioned the snap on the pair’s Instagram, where they have 172,000 followers. (sic)

Fans flocked to the comments to gush over the Welsh couple’s post.

One wrote: “Gorgeous then and now both of you,” while another commented: “Whit whoooo Shirley x.” (sic)

“You were a real good looking lad Dave,” a third added, as a fourth penned: “Lovely photo! Go on Shirley, get those legs out gorgeous lady!! Beautiful then, and beautiful now! Fab couple you two are!” (sic)

Dave and Shirley joined Gogglebox in 2015 and have become household names thanks to the Channel 4 show.

The couple, who are fan favourites due to their funny one-liners and quips, often take to their social media pages to share updates about their lives off-screen. Their throwback post comes after the duo were missing from the Channel 4 show’s latest episode, which aired on Friday, May 12.

‌Fans were left wondering why the two were absent, with one fan tweeting: “Where was @‌daveandshirley this week?”

Another said: “I really missed Dave and Shirley on tonight’s show. Hope they are okay.”

Dave put concerns to rest by replying from their joint Twitter account, as he explained: “Shirley was a bit under the weather last week, thanks for your concern see you next week xx.”

‌The couple, who have been married for over 45 years and live in Caerphilly with their dogs Rupert and Bleu, also took a break from filming last summer, returning to the show in the autumn.
