Former Great British Bake Off contestant Freya Cox, 20, has said she “completely ignores” those who slam veganism as she questioned why the likes of Piers Morgan choose to criticise the lifestyle. The outspoken presenter is no stranger to debating with those choosing not to eat products from an animal.

Just last month he ate a Big Mac live on his TalkTV show following a clash with vegan activist Orla Coghlan.

The 57-year-old also raged at “PC-ravaged clowns” Greggs for introducing a vegan sausage roll in 2020.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk ahead of her appearance at this year’s Cake and Bake show, Freya said: “If you’re not interested in it then I don’t know why they’re so invested.

“Everybody loves a bit of controvery don’t they, he’s not going to have a job if he doesn’t say something like that.”

Piers claimed that vegans are “unethical” in a rant on Good Morning Britain over bees.

He said: “My belief is that eating meat helps sustains the planet and that vegans are unethical because they all eat almonds, which kills millions of bees.”

Conflicting reports have occured over whether bees are killed, if not harmed, when almonds are made.

Almonds.co.uk writes: “When almonds trees bloom, bees get their first food source from our orchards’ nutritious pollen.

“Just like almonds are a nutritious snack for us, almond pollen is very nutritious for bees and, as a result, they consistently leave California almond orchards stronger than when they arrived.”

Piers has also previously said to a guest on Good Morning Britain: “I’ve never met a healthy looking vegan… You’re a bit pale and you’re really angry.”

Despite negativity, Freya prompted many to be more open-minded when it came to baking the vegan way during her stint on the show last year.

Speaking of her experience she admitted it was “harder” for her “because the challenges are already so difficult”.

“I was so dedicated and commited to it [being vegan] because I’m the type of person that really likes to stand by my morals.

“I’m never going to change that.”

After leaving the show, Freya said Paul was quick to praise her way of baking.

She added: “Paul and Prue are really lovely, I think they’re both really good characters towards the show.

“When I left, especially Paul, he was so lovely.

“He said, ‘Oh you’ve changed my opinion a lot on vegan baking’ which I thought was really nice of him he didn’t need to say that. I respect them a lot.”

Freya is also hoping to inspire others with her new book titled Simply Vegan Baking.

The Cake & Bake Show, the UK’s biggest experiential baking show, returns to ExCeL London this autumn from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd October.

Freya Cox will be at the show on Sunday 23rd October on the Baking Super Theatre, showcasing her vegan recipe for Raspberry Ripple Cupcakes.
